I was hired on with Grandville Public Schools in 2018 as a substitute bus driver. I enjoyed the position such that I took a bid route position in 2019. My favorite thing about driving a school bus is observing the interaction of the students, helping the kids as they learn conflict resolution and being able to see the joy on their faces when they have learned something new or have an experience they would like to share. I migrated to Grand Rapids in 1994 after completing my undergraduate studies in Political Science at Michigan State. I met Lisa, my wife, in 1996 and were married in 1999 and have been living in the district the entire time. I am originally from Fraser, MI on the east side of the state. I was born into a large family and am the youngest of 12 siblings. Both of my parents were very active members within Fraser Public Schools. My Mom, Judy, served as a Board member with the FHS band booster program and my Dad, Jerry, had a long career as an elected official on the Fraser Public Schools Board. While Lisa and I have no children of our own I am the proud uncle to 27 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews. I hold my Real Estate Salesperson license and continue to serve my friends, family and trusted people with which I have had previous business relations. I am proud to serve in the capacity of GESSA President and am excited by the challenges and opportunities we have as a unit for further growth in our relationships and alliances.
Some things about me:
Lisa and I are both MSU Spartans- GO GREEN!! We will be busy most Saturdays in the fall watching our MSU Spartans play football, attending tailgate parties, or gathered with other alumni cheering on our Spartans! I marched in the MSU Spartan Marching Band as a member of the drumline and continue to remain connected with lifelong friends that I met while attending MSU. What I Love to eat: Pizza, chicken wings, Better Made Potato Chips, fudge brownies, fresh picked green beans, garden grown tomato on a BLT, Motman’s seasonal asparagus, as well as a Huma Lumpa Licious. Favorite restaurants: Ironwood B & G, West Side Social, Walker Roadhouse, Salvatore’s, HopCat. Favorite places to shop: Maple Hill Golf Outlet, Amazon, Costco, Sobie Meats. When I want to relax I: Bike, beach or Book… best when it is all in one day. My hobbies: golf, biking, gardening and cooking

Raised in Grandville, I am a graduate of Grandville High School, GO DAWGS! I started as a volunteer at West Elementary when my son started school. Since I was there everyday, The Principal at the time said, “we may as well pay you to be here!” and I started in the lunchroom as a lunch lady. I loved having 360 kids that called me Ms. Becky and told me their favorite things. I met another school bus driver and thought, that sounds fun! I passed my road test in 2014 and have been a full-time bus driver for 8 years. As your GESSA Secretary, I’ll help employees find resources and continue to make a difference for workers.
